Sonoran Desert - Hermosillo - Punta Chueca - Isla Tiburón in Mexico

Every June 30 and July 1, the Comcaac celebrate the beginning of a new seasonal cycle, traditionally associated with the arrival of summer rains and the harvest of desert fruits.

In Punta Chueca, families gather for ceremonial songs, traditional dances, face painting, local food and community celebrations.

Our visit coincides with these festivities, offering the opportunity to experience a living tradition alongside the community.

THE ANNUAL BUFO ALVARIUS SACRED MEDICINE COLLECTION:
A DESERT PRACTICE

Located in the Gulf of California, Isla Tiburón is Mexico's largest island and part of the ancestral territory of the Comcaac people.

The island is listed as UNESCO site and Protected Areas of the Gulf of California.

Our planned visit is accompanied by local guides and  authorized with applicable permits and subject to weather conditions.

Two nights in a private historic villa in Hermosillo + two nights with a Comcaac (Seri) family in Punta Chueca.

The group enjoys a comfortable home base, with flexible meal arrangements and assistance from our organizers throughout the journey.

JUNE 30 — ARRIVAL & SONORAN DESERT NIGHT COLLECTION

Arrival at Hermosillo International Airport (HMO). Reception and transfer to Hotel in Hermosillo.

One of the most distinctive moments of the journey takes place during a night excursion in the Sonoran desert. Guests are invited to witness and respectfully take part in a traditional seasonal practice connected to the natural cycles of the desert. This activity is carried out exclusively under the guidance and authorization of the local community.

JULY 1 — COMCAAC NEW YEAR

Visit to Punta Chueca to attend the traditional Seri New Year festivities, including community gatherings, music, ceremonial activities and local traditions open to visitors.

JULY 2 — ISLA TIBURÓN

This island is the largest island in Mexico, SACRED TERRITORY of the COMCAAC COMMUNITY.

Full-day excursion to Isla Tiburón, 

There take place Bufo Alvarius sessions on the beach.  On the way back, visit to Bahia de Kino and return to Hermosillo, lodging in Historic Colonial Villa.

JULY 3 — 2nd SONORAN DESERT NIGHT COLLECTION

This is a buffer 2nd night outing, reserved in order to guarantee, due to climatic conditions the chances for an ideal exploration of the desert.

JULY 4 — CHECKOUT by noon

and transfer to Transfer to Hermosillo International Airport. (HMO).

ITINERARY
DAY 1 — Flight Santa Cruz / Sucre + City Visit
Flight Santa Cruz – Sucre.
Arrival, private transfer to hotel and first exploration of the “White City”: colonial center, main plazas and panoramic viewpoints.
Overnight: Sucre Hotel VILLA ANTIGUA
DAY 2 — Roadtrip Sucre → Potosí → Uyuni
Morning departure with private transport.
Visit of Potosí historical center and Casa de la Moneda.Continuation to Uyuni with stop at the Train Cemetery.
Overnight: Uyuni salt hotel CRISTALES DE SAL
DAY 3 — Uyuni Salt Flat (start of 4x4 expedition)
Private 4x4 expedition with driver-guide.
Visit Salar de Uyuni, hike the Isla Incahuasi (giant cactus island) and Tunupa Volcano area with the mummy caves and highpoint view on the salt flat.
Optional: Entheogenic experience on the Uyuni salt flat

DAY 4 — Route of Jewels
Crossing high-altitude landscapes:
Salar de Chiguana, Ollagüe Volcano viewpoint, Siloli Desert. RUTA DE JOYAS (Route of Jewels), five remote multi-color lagoons in the heart of the highlands (14.000 ft): Laguna Cañapa, Laguna Hedionda, Laguna Chiarkota, Laguna Honda, Laguna Ramaditas
Overnight: Huayllajara (Aymara community lodge, private rooms with bathroom)
DAY 5 — South Lípez Full Experience
Laguna Colorada (blood red laggon with thousands of pink flamingos), Sol de Mañana geysers, Polques hot springs, Dalí Desert, Laguna Verde and Laguna Blanca. We reach near to the frontier with Chile.
Return north to Villamar.
Overnight: Villamar (Quechua community hostal, private rooms with bathroom)
DAY 6 — Valle de Rocas + Flight to La Paz
Panoramic route: Anaconda Canyon, Valle de Rocas, San Cristóbal. Arrival in Uyuni and evening flight to La Paz. Private transfer to hotel.
Overnight: La Paz HOTEL PATIO DE PIEDRA
DAY 7 — Lake Titicaca & Isla del Sol
Early morning private journey to Copacabana.
Boat navigation to Isla del Sol and scenic hike to the lodge.

Overnight: Isla del Sol HOTEL INTI ILLIMANI
DAY 8 — Valle de las Ánimas & Don Lino Ranch
Return toward La Paz. Visit Valle de las Ánimas and arrival at Don Lino ranch.
Optional: light trek to the Cañon de Polca
Authentic Andean experience with local traditions.
Optional Huachuma ceremony around the fire.
Dinner and overnight at the ranch.
DAY 9 — La Paz City Visit + Flight to Santa Cruz
Visit of La Paz: historical center, San Francisco Church, Plaza Murillo and Witches Market.
Transfer to airport and flight to Santa Cruz.
